What are superfoods?

David Wolfe defines the word superfood as foods that have a dozen or more unique properties, not just one or two. For example, the goji berry would be classed a superfood due to it being a complete protein, containing immune-stimulating polysaccharides, liver-cleaning betaine, anti-aging sesquiterpenes, antioxidants, over twenty trace minerals and many more. Superfoods are natural plant foods with exceptionally high nutrition that can enhance our life greatly.

Superfoods can also be defined as a food and a medicine due to their nutritional properties. They can provide us with vast amounts of energy while being able to improve health of the consumer. Some of these include boosting the immune system, elevating serotonin production, enhancing libido, and cleaning and alkalising our bodies.

Superfoods are gaining notoriety at speed as a major factor in nutrition as over the short term are able to help the brain, bones, immune system, hair, heart, kidneys, liver, lungs, pancreas, reproductive system, but in the long term can correct imbalances within the body. By consuming superfoods, they are able to aid in the detoxification of the body and lead to an all-round healthier version of you!
